Staring to Kerala by Train

When I boarded the train to Kerala, I was looking at the city trafficscapes being stuck in the tyranny of routine. Here I was on a train, that was speeding past places and people, transporting me to the bucolic life that lay on offer, either sides of the train window.  As I was staring by the window, at some point, I fell asleep in the air-conditioned comfort of the train.

Having a side lower beth meant, I could stare out of the window to check, where my train was, just in case I needed to know if Cherthala was around. It was to come at 5 in the morning, when the morning light was still 90 minutes away from spreading cheer. In a train, if I am on an upper berth, I am usually dependent on Google Maps, to help me with where I am, and it can get messy with phones sliding out of the pocket from the upper berth. So in a position of vantage, with access to phone charging, I slept peacefully, but kept waking up in the train’s blue-velvet lit compartment every 45 minutes, just worried if the train chose to accelerate or if I overslept.

Wet Morning in Cherthala (Kerala)

I got off at Cherthala at 6 am, and woke up to a wet morning. I made my way slowly through the walkway, dragging my luggage. It took me a good 10-15 minutes to get to the main platform exit, as I tried calling my friend Advin, who had not yet picked up my phone. Advin was not a 6 am guy, and I fervently hoped he would be able to get out of a dream sequence and notice my missed calls. A call to his mother, helped him wake up and guide me to his place in an auto

I went to his place, and discovered that Advin’s house was found amidst a sea of greenery, deep inside an alley that went past a small lake called KaaliKulam. I tried resting, but I was not getting sleep, so Advin and I decided to walk around his house.  We went and had breakfast soon after, and the jackfruit halwa was probably the delight amidst the Idlis-Sambhar breakfast.

Cherthala to Thaneermukom

We ended up biking to Thaneermukom lake, and spending about an hour, standing by the lake. I used the time to send my drone up to take some aerial shots
